I learned that Gretchen Lutterman who is a socially awkward teenager in high school is being abused by her father at home. This is brought out when she mumbles to herself that her dad is going to whip her since she is late.
I rediscovered that when Cal asked Gretchen if she was really getting abused he showed care and he did the same thing when the rabbit was being tortured by the kids at his apartment. He is also is caring more and more about Gretchen and her well being.
I was surprised how graphic and real this book actually is. There is dogs and people being abused verbally and physically.
I was beginning to wonder if Cal was going to do anything to stop Gretchen's dad from doing these awful things.
I was disturbed when the kids were torturing the rabbit and then immediately after the book talks about how a man beats his dog across the street.
I was confused to see how interested Cal was in Gretchen. Even though he really liked Lola.
I was interested to see if he will have the decision to make to either be with Lola or Gretchen.
